ASSIGNMENT #2

A media kit is a basic tool for public relations professionals. Its purpose is to make writing a story about your organization as easy as possible for a media representative. Media kits, also known as press kits, usually have basic elements such as fact sheets, bios of key individuals, pitch sheets with suggested story angles, a list of upcoming events and past news releases.

Your job is to create a media kit for GovLoop that can be used for many purposes. What makes GovLoop so newsworthy? What facts would someone need in order to prepare a story on GovLoop?

We won’t leave you hanging…Hints:

  • If you need supplies, let us know and we’ll take you on a personal tour of the supply closet.
  • This Wednesday, May 20, you may have an opportunity to speak with GovLoop users and influencers, a great opportunity to gather nuggets of stories/testimonials that could enhance your media kit. Please send afogt@kidd.com any questions you would like to ask them prior to 10 a.m. Wednesday.
  • Do a little digging online to find out what makes a good v. bad media kit – PR pros often get creative to make their kits stand out among the dozens reporters receive daily.

* During the next boardroom meeting, we will have a guest panelist. Dave Hodges, Tallahassee Democrat Business Editor, will offer feedback and help us decide on a winner.
