ASSIGNMENT #1

GovLoop PR Plan

Public Relations should be strategic. While professionals often have to react to situations, it is most effective to conduct communications deliberately based on research, target audiences and goals/objectives. Your first task is to create a one-year PR plan for GovLoop, beginning May 18, 2009, and ending May 18, 2010.

You will find examples of public relations plans in the Kidd PR conference room. There is not just one way to format a PR plan, but it should contain some major elements – Brush up on these if you are unfamiliar.

We won’t leave you hanging…Hints:

  • Your overall goals should be: to increase awareness of and membership in GovLoop. That’s one thing out of the way!
  • Remember target audiences, folks.
  • This plan must include a special event for GovLoop’s one-year anniversary, mid-June in Washington, D.C. Don’t go into detail, but please provide a general description of what you’d do and why.
  • This plan must also include a social media component.
  • Do not include any paid media component in this plan.
  • Budget = $0…Except for the special event, in which case, we encourage you to consider recommendations for partnership negotiations and cost-effective solutions.

Supervisors will respond to e-mailed questions until 5 p.m., Wednesday, May 13. Responses will be sent to all Apprentices to ensure an equal playing field.
